The inside of the ELHS horseshoe will be replaced with a parking lot this summer as construction for the new high school begins next month. Early work involves creating the work site necessary to begin work on the new building, which will be constructed behind the existing high school.

As part of the work, the Spartan Walkway will be moved.

“It’s such a beautiful part of our existing campus,” said Principal Frank Paige, “that it would be wrong for it not to be preserved and added onto the new high school, which is exactly what we intend on doing.”

Plans are now in the works as of now are plans to remove the memorial and preserve it for inclusion in the building’s grounds.

The new East Longmeadow High School is expected to be completed by May of 2027.
